On 6th September 2017, I was invited to speak at the second Digital Project Manager event for the British Interactive Media Association. I presented an interactive talk entitled “What Makes a good DPM?”

Presentation summary

I covered the research I had done to come up with the answer to this question and distilled that into six particular areas where good project managers have their strengths or habits:

• Communicates powerfully
• Practices empathy
• Maintains a sense of responsibility
• Is a good decision-maker
• Is well organised
• Is self aware

We accepted that not everyone works the same way, because we’re individuals, and whilst we may not consider ourselves equally strong in all areas, we did look at ways that we can transform our work from good to great. There’s a blog post on this I would love to write some time!
